Ulta Haul and Mini Review's

When Ulta was having their %20 off everything in the store, I decided to try some higher end stuff. There was some stuff I needed, a setting spray and primers, but the other stuff it came with were perks! Here's the stuff I got.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Tarte Prime Shine and Define Kit: $12
It came with 3 mini products.

The Clean Slate Poreless Perfecting Primer
This was a product I needed. I bought the ELF face primer and found it did nothing. This primer is much thicker and really does cover up my pores. I apply it to my cheek area where I have large pores, and it seems to really smooth them out, especially after I add foundation on top of it. You can tell the places you put the primer and the places you didn't. It looks flawless.

Amazonian Clay BB Illuminating Moisturizer
I have never tried another BB cream before. I like coverage. The summer is coming and I sometimes don't even wear foundation at all in the summer. It's too heavy. I have tried this once, and I find it more or less evens out my face, but doesn't give me coverage. It does have an illuminating factor to it. There is a slight pearlesent finish. If you have ever tried the Nuxe Dry Oil, I would say the sheen of both of them are similar. The Nuxe Dry Oil is a little more shimmering. This BB Cream is less noticeable. I will not need any highlighter when I use this either. I think this will be perfect for the summer months. Or when I don't feel like wearing makeup.

Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara
If you are looking for a natural mascara, you have found it. It's more of a wet mascara and the brush is the old school type of brush, which doesn't bother me. I just wish I got a little more volume and length with it. The good side of that is that it doesn't get all clumpy. It separates more than anything and if I am giving it some credit, it does lengthen, a little bit. Nothing compares to my Mally's Volumizing Mascara these days and this didn't hold a candle to it.

 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray $14
This was already a Holy Grail. {p.s., I need to update my Holy Grail page bad} Even though my skin is combination. Sometimes dry, other times oily, acne prone skin. I like De-Slick better than All-Nighter because it keeps my makeup in place in the summer humidity and heat. It's really a miracle worker. It has a slight tackiness to it when it dries, almost like a hair spray. But not as severe and sticky as a hair spray. They changed the packaging of this. I like it quite well. I just bought the travel size because it was cheaper. It will probably last me all through the summer. Check Hautelook because they sometimes have these setting sprays on sale. That's what I'm waiting for.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Too Faced Ready. Set. Prime.
This set came with 2 eye primers. I was all out of my ELF Eye Primer, which I really do love.

Shadow Insurance
Catchy name. I like it. I hear people compare this one to Urban Decay's eye primer and I would say they are similar. How different can an eye shadow primer really get though? This is the thickest eye primer I have ever used. Not that it's too thick and hard to work with. It has a silky feeling to it. It applies nicely and works well. I apply this under my eyes too before I use concealer. I like an eye shadow primer as long as it keeps my shadow {and concealer} in place and also gives vibrancy to my eye shadow. This one is great for that. As is Urban Decay's. And ELF's.

Candlelight
Another eyeshadow primer but it has a pearlesent finish. It has the same consistency as Shadow Insurance. I have yet to really use this in full but I have dreams of using this alone for a simple wash of sheen, under a matte eye shadow to play with a unique finish, using it under my eyes before concealer to brighten without using anything like an illuminating concealer.

101 Basic Blogging Tips + Ideas: Marketing, Content, Photography, HTML, + Growing Your Blog

Today I have a different type of blog post. I have been blogging here on Mind Body Beauty {formerly Meet Makeup} since January of 2011 and even though I am not a professional, I realize I know a lot more than someone who has been blogging for only a couple months, maybe. I wish I would have come across something like this when I first started out, so I really wanted to do something like this for the newbies out there. This post isn't only for beauty bloggers, although some things are specific considering I am a beauty blogger. Feel free to take what you need and leave the rest.

everything is linked. Anything I talk about, just click on the link and it will take you to the article/tutorial. whatever.

Content:
This is what I have always loved -and known- about blogging. I love coming up with different ways to write and thinking up different series', styles, and ideas. Here's some tips for inspiration and management.

1. Manage your time. Manage your week. I write down a weekly plan every week that includes everything I do in my life, including blogging.

2. I divide the blogging categories in my weekly plan into 3 parts: Picutres, Write, + Publish. Feel free to schedule time in there to reply to comments, go to blog hops, tweet, pin and re-pin and all of that. I don't but if you are even more micro-managed then me, go for it!

3. Write all of your blog post's for the week, then publish them on the day you wish. It helps me.

4. Re-read your blog post's before you publish them. Make sure your links are there and correct.

5. When choosing a name for your blog post, pick something that draws interest. This one is always hard for me. Make people want to click!

6. Get inspired. Pinterest, Tumblr, other blogs, whatever.

7. I have been loving Elle Sees lately for ideas. She has really great content.

8. Kiss and Makeup {Jacenda Leeann} has been one of my favorites since I started blogging.

9. P.S. It's Vida ,   The Beauty MilkPink Pistachio.   Check out my Blog Love Page.

10. How about Undressed Skeleton? She is a health blog but also is coming up with some great ideas for blog post's.

11. I loved what Jayme and Mendi did with their blog post of instagram pictures of every outfit.
12. Start a TAG! I have been in the process of creating a Fashion tag. I created it last year but never got around to publishing it. So I need to work on it. look out for that!

13. FOTD, {face of the day} OOTD,{outfit of the day} NOTW {nail of the week}WIAW {what i ate wednesday} WIWW {what I wore wednesday}Friday's Fancies

14. Do a Summer Series: Fashion, Pool Essentials, Healthy Treats, Wishlist, whatever!

15. Favorite ____{fill in the blank}___ nail polishes. {glitter, pastels}

16. Favorite ___{fill in the blank}___ lipsticks {nude pinks, mattes}

17. I also have a Blog Love page. Those are the blogs I love and get inspired by

Social Networking + Marketing:
This is one of my favorite things about blogging! It's fun for me to come up with different ways to get my blog out there, then see how effective it actually is. Finding different platforms and being creative about each platform- they all have different fun things you can do (ex: on Lauren Conrads you can post recipes.) Read on.

18. Pick a url that resonates with you and your content. You can change it later on if you want, but then you run the risk of people knowing of your former url and not your new one. Although, I changed mine from Meet Makeup to Mind Body Beauty and I would say it went pretty smooth.

19. Create a twitter account for your blog {I am @MeetMissJackson}

20. Tweet about your blog post!

21. Tweet/Reply/Retweet other bloggers

22. There's a great #hashtag us beauty bloggers like to use on twitter when referring to our blog: #bbloggers

23. There are other great #hashtags that I have used before to link my blog: #jadorlavie is a good one to tweet out positivity.

24. Make up your own #hashtag

25. Create a Pinterest account

27. Pin every picture you blog about, linking back to the actual blog post {I get a ton of views from Pinterest!}

28. In the description of your Pinterest, write something helpful/informative about the picture/subject.

29. Join Blog Lovin

30. Put a Blog Lovin Button in your sidebar

31. Join Beautylish

32. Put the Beautylish button in your sidebar

33. Upload pictures/videos to Beautylish.

34. Chat in the Beautylish Forum

35. Join The Beauty Department. I love that blog for inspiration on blog post's + beauty ideas.

36. If you have done a project on your blog that they have talked about, link it complete with a picture. I have gotten 100's of views from linking 1 picture on The Beauty Department.

37. Join Lauren Conrad.com

38. Post recipes on Lauren Conrad

39. Join Elle and Blair.com

40. Emily from Beauty Broadcast has her own community. That's exiting! I love her

41. Post pictures, recipes, FOTD's, OOTD's: Whatever you can post about on any of those platforms! Don't forget to link your blog (:

42. Join Makeup Geek.com

43. Do the monthly challenges on Makeup Geek.

44. Participate in any of the forum's these sites have to offer.

45. Join instagram. I just got my iPhone and set up my instagram a couple days ago!

46. You can use any #hashtag from twitter on instagram too

47. Apply for iFabbo. They send you a newsletter about blogging tips every month. It includes things like: how to market your blog, how to speak with companies. They recently started this new shop where you can basically get stuff for free! That I will speak on more later because I am currently trying something out from the iFabbo shop

48. Sign up/apply for any platform you can think of pertaining to your blog

49. Start a Youtube channel.
50. Join Blog Hops. {Here's a bunch of them}

51. Join tumblr.

52. The Small Things just did a 3 part series on how to blog better. Read it.

53. She included links to articles. Read those.

54. Create a Blog Button

55. Do button swaps with other bloggers you like

Pictures + Look of Your Blog:
No wait, this one's my favorite! As you may know, I got a new camera and I am still figuring that one out, and I have a few tips for point and shoot cameras. As you start picking up little things and ways to do things, it gets easier with this category and really gets funner and funner {.....?}

56. Make sure your camera is on macro mode. That is the little flower in the corner.

57. Make sure your ISO is on 80. The higher it is, the more noise you will see in the picture. It will look grainy

58. Take a million pictures

59. Always film/photograph in the daylight.

60. Place subject of interest {weather that be a video or photos} near a window to take a photo. With the window behind you, take the picture.

61. Make sure your not blocking the light.

62. Don't photograph while there is straight up sunlight directly on subject. You want the light to be coming in, yes, but you don't want the sunlight directly on subject

63. If you have a DSLR camera, read the manual

64. Edible Perspectives is my girl for any photography stuff. She also has really great healthy food.

65. A Beautiful Mess as another good blog for photography.

66. Download Gimp if you don't have Photoshop. I have been using Gimp for years and it is totally free. It's great for watermarking, editing photos, creating headers, buttons, etc. And collages too (: I have had 0 problems with Gimp.

68. Free Pretty Things For You.com

69. Give your blog a face lift from time to time. Weather you create your own header on Gimp or change the layout. I think of it as a new hair color or wardrobe. Changing it up gets me exited.

70. Remember Jacenda Leeann? She creates blog layouts and all that

71. From Inside My Closet is great at buttons and banners

72. Match your picture background with your actual blog. Example: I usually take all of my pictures of everything on a lilac desk I have. I made some of the words on my blog that purple color.

73. Wonder Forest has a fun newsletter for this stuff too.

74. Photos are not really everything. Some of my favorite blogs dont have the best pictures. Doing unique tutorials, DIY's, etc. is great for a blog. Just blogging from the heart is really attractive in itself

75. Try your hand at HTML. If you want your blog wider, you want your sidebar to be aligned, blah blah blah. I takes a minute to find a good tutorial but when you do, you will be happy with the way your blog will turn out. Exactly the way you wanted it. Everything you see on my blog, I taught myself.

Comments:
77. read your comments on your blog

78. reply to your comments on your blog

79. If someone leaves a comment on your blog, comment back.

80. Go a step further and comment back on their blog.

81. Every comment you publish on someone else's blog should be thoughtful and reflect the subject they are talking about. Never go to someones blog and ask if they will follow you.

82. Always leave your blog url on any site you comment on. You don't have to be obnoxious about it, just type it out at the end.

83. if your getting spammed, set the security code for people to publish comments on your blog. That is the only reason I set mine like that. Otherwise, I hate those.
84. If your on a blog that is writing something that is relevant to a blog post you have done, tell them in the comments. That's how you get people to come over.

Other Ideas:
85. I was just thinking about buying Turkish Delight lip gloss then buying the dupes to see how they compare just to write a blog post about it. You get to have fun with it on the blog and buy yourself some new stuff! Perfect. But don't take my idea! Just kidding, if it inspires you, please do take it! (:

86. Get your readers involved with a poll on the side bar.

87. Do a give-away

88. Start a series on your blog.

89. Join a blogging challenge. I did one last summer. Nail bloggers always do them too.

90. Jazz up your sidebar

91. The blog post's that people seem to love to most:

92. Here's some of my favorites:

93. Pinterest Favorites:

An ELF Haul 71 views this month from Pinterest
P.S. I Made This Nail Polish Rack 3 views today from Pinterest

94. Go To Pinterest. There are a ton of ideas! Like, so many.

Writing:

95. Re-read your blog post's

96. +1 your blog post's on Google

97. Let your first paragraph of every blog post, say a lot without giving away too much. This will add interest and will make people want to read on. I'm not really great at this one, but it's a good tip, nevertheless.

98. Create a Review template for yourself by asking yourself what a review should consist of.

99. Watch this video if your a beauty reviewer

100. Let your blog inspire.

101. Lastly, let your blog reflect the person you are and want to become

Leave your tips for blogging, blog links, platform links, whatever!

Charlotte Russe Jewelry

I bought some really gorgeous jewelry a couple weeks ago from Charlotte Russe that I have been dying to show you all.

You all know I am a fan of Arm Candy and when I buy jewelry from Charlotte Russe {It is almost always 2 pieces for $10} I can't resist getting those 3 pack of bracelets. The one's I picked out, I love. I have been seeing the new Arm Candy for Spring/Summer, and a lot of it is made up of metals with cloth.

The first one is a braided skull bead bracelet with the metallic gold skull beads woven throughout. Fastens with an adjustable pull cord and had 2 gold beads attached to each of the 2 pull cords. One of the beads fell off. I love skulls and I love how these skull beads are tiny, but you can still see that they are skulls. It's a nice little detail. I love the pull cord too. I wish the one bead didn't fall off, obviously. But yah no.

The next bracelet has a beige rope with a metallic gold bar as the solid piece. This is the one piece that sold me. I loved the mixing of the rope with the gold bar. This is adjustable as well. The rope is tied in a loose knot with a metallic gold piece that you pull up or down to make it looser or tighter.

The last piece is a gold spike bracelet with pearls set in metallic gold  between each spike. I could have done without the pearls although it does add a little class to a what would have been an edgy bracelet. Stretchy, cheap band.

For my second piece of jewelry, I decided on this bauble-esc silver metallic necklace. They also had a coral one with silver which I want to go back and snatch. This fastens with a lobster claw and I am wearing it in the middle somewhere. It can be adjusted to go a little lower. The longest it goes is just below the collar of a normal tee shirt. It can also be worn a little higher than this. Forgive me as I don't have exact measurements. It doesn't fit long like a quintessential bauble necklace. I prefer this one over that, however. Sorry about the boob shot.

ok! I have got to run! It's Philly's birthday today, and I still have to go buy him something + buy myself something to wear. Im not complaining though ;)

Have a fabulous day!

love,
Erica

NYX Butter Glosses

I love Nyx and I love butter so I thought the new Nyx butter glosses would be pretty sweet, literally. Turns out, they taste like absolutely nothing. They really don't smell like anything either. If you smell really hard they have a faint sweet plastic smell. But if I wasn't a beauty blogger, I would never know that.

Yeah, I sniff my products to report back to you all.

This is my life.

Even though they dont smell or taste like anything, the term buttery definitely sticks to these glosses. They are silky, buttery smooth. They are not sticky at all. They are really pleasant to wear.

I bought only 2 when Ulta was having their BOGO1/2 sale on Nyx. It came to something like $9.  The 2 you see are Merengue {Right} and Apple Strudel {Left} Looking at them in the tube, I was sure they were going to be pastel like on the lips.  Yes, they do give some color and depending on the color you choose, lighten the lips a little. I get some color for the moment but the color wears as does the gloss.

Apple Strudel has been my favorite of the 2. That is always subject to change. I have been loving wearing it over Revlon's Lip Butter in Creme Brulee. They compliment each other. This one isn't as pigmented as Merengue, but I still love that nude/orange color.

Apple Strudel Alone:

Apple Strudel worn over Creme Brulee:

Did I say Apple Strudel was my favorite? I changed my mind. I could not pass up Merengue. I have always passed on that Revlon lip gloss that is that pastel lilac color, and even though Merengue is a little different than said Revlon gloss, it still is the same concept. I love a good pastel. I will take it in any form: nail polish, clothing, accessories, food, paint, and of course gloss. I have been loving wearing Merengue under Wet n Wild's Dollhouse Pink. Dollhouse Pink is so bright and in your face {not to mention drying} that it tones down the color, but compliments it so well.

Merengue by itself:

here's Merengue underneath Wet n Wild Dollhouse Pink. You can wear the gloss over top too, I just think that if your wanting to go for that bright pink but want to tone it down, these colors compliment each other so well when worn this way.

They have a doe foot applicator.

Here's the swatches of both of them on my arm.

There you have it! There's my review!

Have you tried these Butter Glosses?
What did you think?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday (:

Using CVS Extra Bucks {$18 total}

I am not all that great with coupons, but I do know how to save a buck or 2. Thanks to Nouveau Cheap, I found out that it was a great week last week to use extra bucks. The trick is to do separate transactions.

Transaction #1:
Spend $14 on Physician's Formula and get $10 back in extra bucks:
I knew this was a perfect time to buy one last thing for my giveaway coming up. I wanted to get something worth some money. I just felt like it was a sacrifice and that is something I like to do from time to time. Even though it's hard. But you feel good when you buy something for someone else instead of you. And it's karma. It isn't very hard to find something for $14 from this brand. This bronzer was $13.99 but it worked luckily. The first transaction was the biggest one. I paid full price - $14.

Transaction #2:
Spend $10 on Sally Hansen get $5 back in extra bucks:
I bought 4 nail polishes. This is my favorite brand of nail polish. I have been wanting to try Pacific Blue and the glitter top coat, Perky Pink. Perky Pink reminds me of Julep Maven's Portia, only a pink version. I needed a new Mint Sorbet. Coral Reef was a no brainer. Looking back, I should have also bought Lacey Lilac, the pastel purple instead of Mint Sorbet. Anyways, this totaled out to $12 total. I had my $10 extra bucks from the first transaction. So I paid $2 for this transaction

Transaction #3:
I have been wanting to try this Spray It Curly stuff. I have naturally curly hair and always love to try new curly hair products. I haven't found anywhere that sells it yet except for CVS so I decided to jump on it. It was around $6 total. I spent my $5 extra bucks and ended up paying like $2.

That brings the total to $18. Pretty good, huh?

I would have been $32 if I would have paid full price. Fuck that. I know better!

Have you ever had the chance to use your extra bucks like this?

 Do tell!

and don't forget to check out Nouveau Cheap every week to find out how to get deals like this. It's a fun time.

Urban Decay's Roller Girl Palette

Thank you to Linh over at Blushology. She had her 100 follower give away and I actually won! I was so stoked! Her blog is really good too, guys. She currently has a couple of Nars blog post's up on her blog right now. Thank you again Linh! I won a few things: Winter Candy Apple Hand Cream {Im saving for winter} Einstein Lip Therapy Lip Balm, Some really adorable shabby chic cards {I have already sent some of those out!}, Physician's Formula Cream Liner {I love those + they made it into my March favorites} + a few samples. The big win was the Urban Decay Roller Girl Palette. It came with a gloss, eye liner, and obviously the palette. That's what I am going to talk about.

I already knew I loved Urban Decay's eyeshadows. I have the Naked palette and my mom and I use it to death. When I seen Naked 2 come out, I realized I would rather have that one. But, I would rather buy some Mac shadows and try those or anything else before I spend the money on an oh so similar Naked palette that I already felt like I had. The colors are different but whatever. That's my reasoning.

Luckily for me, the Roller Girl Palette came with 2 colors that are in Naked 2. Suspect and Verve. It also has Dark Horse {which is in the original Naked palette}and Woodstock {a bright pink}.

A looonnggg time ago, I did a FOTD that I wore on my birthday. I followed the Michelle Phan "Birthday Look" tutorial and that look required pink and purple.  I have yet to try Woodstock, but when I do I shall do a FOTD to show you that it is actually wearable. For now, check out my birthday look from 2011

I doubt I have to tell you how blendable and pigmented these shadows are. You probably already know how bomb Urban Decay is, right? The 2 middle colors are the cooler nude colors which I happen to really like. However, I am noticing that those 2 lightest colors are much more pigmented than the lighter 2 colors from Urban Decay's Naked palette {Virgin and Sin} I always preferred using Stila's Kitten in place of Virgin or Sin on my lid because it was so much more pigmented and easy to use. With the Roller Girl palette, I don't have to break out Kitten if I don't want to. Suspect and Verve are just as pigmented and awesome. You will see swatches at the end.

Along with the eyeshadow's, the palette also came with the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whiskey. Whiskey is a very true brown. It is a creamy consistency and so far, I haven't had any problems with it migrating out of my waterline. I have only worn it once thru a workout and it didn't budge. After the shower and washing my face, there was a little smudging but I am surprised at how little. I will need a makeup remover for it. {I love Avon's} I am prone to eye liner's running. I have very watery eyes. Here's a color comparison. The other liner's are pretty good in the waterline too, but I think Urban Decay's Glide-On Pencil is giving these others a run for their money. I have full review's on each of them. Mally's Ever Color Waterproof Eye Liner- Mally's Favorite Things Kit. Physician's Formula's Shimmer Strips "For Blue Eyes"

Lastly, this little Urban Decay Roller Girl kit came with a Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Crush. The color couldn't have been any more perfect for me. I love bright pink lip glosses. This lip gloss cools and plumps. It has a minty taste. I wouldn't say it is the plumpiest of plumpers but it does plump. And cools. I really do like it. It has been in my bag ever since I got it.

ok now for the swatches from the actual palette and the Lip Junkie Lip Gloss. The swatches are in this order from left to right: Crush {lip gloss}, Darkhorse, Suspect, Verve, Woodstock

Don't forget to check out Linh's blog Blushology. I know you will love it.

till next time,
